Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian ideology that prioritizes nationalism, suppresses dissent, and seeks to control society through state and corporate power, often using violence and propaganda.

How the Trump Administration Exhibits Fascist Traits

  • Authoritarianism – Governs by executive order to bypass Congress, undermines the judiciary when rulings go against him, and spreads baseless claims of voter fraud to justify future suppression.

  • Nationalism – Promotes “America First” policies, targets immigrants and religious minorities through travel bans and border crackdowns, and frames non-white populations as threats.

  • Suppression of Dissent – Attacks journalists as “the enemy of the people,” discredits protests as unpatriotic or violent, and encourages state crackdowns on political opposition.

  • Societal Control Through State & Corporate Power – Appoints billionaires and corporate executives to key government positions, weakens regulations protecting workers and the environment, and allows private interests to dictate policy.

  • Use of Violence & Propaganda – Encourages police militarization, emboldens white nationalist groups, spreads disinformation through official channels, and uses press briefings to promote “alternative facts.”

The Trump administration is a textbook example of fascism in action—an authoritarian government consolidating power through nationalism, suppression of dissent, and corporate-state collusion. If we are not careful, Canada is on the same path. Pierre Poilievre has already adopted many of the same tactics: demonizing the press, spreading disinformation, and aligning himself with far-right extremists. Fascism doesn’t arrive overnight—it takes root through complacency.

The time to resist is now.
