What’s Next For Vancouver Against FAscism?
First of all, we want to thank everyone for joining us this Saturday.
Thank you for being a part of a peaceful protest to support democracy and human rights.
This movement is growing fast because we are all feeling the same things: fear, anger, and frustration.
But with every community post, and every conversation with you, and with seeing every person standing up we are feeling something else: hope.
Hope in knowing that we are not alone. That our fears are shared. That our anger is justified. And that together, we can fight back.
Those in power think citizens are dispensable - we know that our collective ideas, knowledge, energy and creativity cannot be replaced. Community is the cornerstone of grassroots organizing. And right now, we are building one that refuses to be silent in the face of the growing threat of authoritarianism.
Who is Vancouver Against Fascism?
We are a few friends who are under-slept, overstimulated, and completely out of our depth.
This group came together just over three weeks ago in response to the relentless, muzzle-velocity political shifts happening around us. These are not just "shocking" changes—they are calculated, aggressive, and dangerous. We are still figuring out what to do and how to do it. But one thing is clear:
We must put an end to the fascism we are seeing in the United States today so that it does not become Canada tomorrow and the rest of the world after that.
Like you, we see a terrifying trend: hateful, anti-democratic values are spreading like wildfire in societies that once prided themselves on freedom, progress, and science-based decision-making. It feels like we’ve been slingshotted back to the 19th century, where bigotry, racism, and misogyny aren’t just tolerated—they’re expected from those in power. Everything we teach our children not to be is now a blueprint for success in the highest offices.
We are not seasoned protesters.
We are not experienced organizers.
We are not experts in building movements.
But we are learning. Fast.
For now, we are focused on building a local community that will peacefully stand up to drive the positive change that we want to see in the world.
This means:
1. Protesting
Locally: Pushing back against the rise of populist, far-right movements in our own communities and showing local politicians that we won’t support extremism.
Nationally: Mobilizing in tandem with protests led by groups like True North HQ.
Continentally: Standing in solidarity with our friends to the south in movements like 50501 We The People.
2. Networking
With each other: Meeting up, sharing ideas, connecting, and learning from anyone willing to guide us. We encourage all of you to use the VAF Community group on Signal to connect with each other!
With other local groups: Recognizing that many are responding to the same threats, and working together to strengthen our impact. If you know of any, please share them with us.
3. Educating
Amplifying awareness: Ensuring people understand what’s happening and why it matters.
Breaking down policy: Providing fact-based, digestible analysis of the policies shaping our future.
So far, we’ve had early success with protesting—and if this momentum continues, we may soon be able to cover all three pillars effectively.
Who are the ORGANIZERS of Vancouver Against Fascism?
We are a collective of Vancouver-based friends.
We are a mix of Canadians, Vancouver locals, dual-citizens, mothers, and fathers.
We are choosing to remain anonymous both to protect our safety from threats (online and real) and because we believe that an organization like this should stand on its own merits, position, and following rather than the charisma of its leadership.
