Who We Are

This is a summary of posts made to the Signal channel to introduce ourselves on a personal level.

We are creating a movement here, and it’s inspiring and heartening to see that so many people want to fight against the injustice, fascism, and anti-democratic movements we see around the world.

I want to re-introduce myself: I am a mother, a sister, a partner, a dog-owner, and someone who cares deeply about the environment.

I was born in Canada and have lived in Vancouver for over ten years.

I started this group just a few weeks ago because I was appalled about what I was seeing in the United States, and shocked that there weren’t more people rising up against what is happening. My experience protesting is limited, so please be patient as I sort through how to do this. So far this response has been inspiring!

I hope you’ll respect my choice to remain anonymous for the safety of my family.

You can call me Anna, though. Anna Nonimous.

Together with my organizing committee of friends and all of you as part of this are showing the world that we will not tolerate fascism in Vancouver, in Canada, or worldwide.

We are Vancouver Against Fascism.

Our Commitment to Peaceful protest

We as an organization, believe in PEACEFUL protest. We are STRONGLY AGAINST threats of violence or intimidation, vandalism, or property damage. We believe that only through peaceful methods will we achieve the positive change we want to see in the world, and we are asking all of you to keep this in mind as you march, protest, and communicate.

a work in progress

Many of you (and the media!) have been asking exactly what Vancouver Against Fascism stands for.

The honest truth is that we're still shaping that answer—but what I do know is that I'm appalled by what's happening in the news every single day. I'm deeply committed to fighting back against the erosion of hard-fought rights affecting minorities, women, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community.

As I've mentioned before, I'm new to organizing, and I'm dedicated to learning as much as possible. Alongside a few incredible friends, I'm part of the Organizing Committee for Vancouver Against Fascism. We're currently working hard to develop a clear statement outlining who we are, what we stand for, and what we oppose.

Seeing all the vibrant conversations in the VAF Community channel has been inspiring—you've provided the Organizing Committee and me with invaluable insights and considerations.

Please stay patient with us. We'll have something solid to share with you soon! And join the VAF community to share your opinions and views about how to move us collectively toward a better and brighter future: https://signal.group/#CjQKIGVLWe04Xv8Bt_Ttb7IYU0fZ3d3m7eEpzRLKnNJ5ey2vEhDT9eqt2RYzvLgMxi6pdbJK
